We continued the CTD sampling of the Dalton Polynya along the western ice edge. This was interrupted yesterday afternoon with a move into the pack ice to the west of the polynya in an effort to retrieve a US mooring (M3) located some 14 nm into the pack. This proved unsuccessful due to ice conditions at the mooring location and will be revisited when ice conditions are expected to ease later in the week. The mission was not fruitless however as a CTD was deployed to 960m in a clear section of the pack on the way back into the polynya.
Since then we have moved along a line on the southern edge of the polynya deploying the CTD every 5nm or so. In total 8 CTD deployments have been successfully completed in the last 24 hours.
All on board are well
Cheers
