Comments

Merry Xmas to everyone from the Aurora Australis.

After 24 hours of intense icebreaking we got to the sea ice edge and entered the polynya at 0630 this morning. This is where the marine science will be conducted over the next 2 weeks. By midday we had deployed the first of 3 moorings with sound sources. These sound sources will emit acoustic information to navigate the 2 gliders which will be deployed under the ice once the 3 sound source moorings are in position. We are now heading to the location to deploy the 2nd sound source mooring.

All on board are well and excited to have kicked off the marine science phase of this voyage.

Cheers

Tony & Lloyd
