Yesterday morning we were forced to curtail our passage through the pack ice as conditions were preventing us from moving forward. We remained in that position until later in the evening when the ice eased and we were able to proceed. We reached the ice edge around 0245. We are at present proceeding along the ice edge due east to longitude 121E where we will enter the pack ice again and head south towards the Totten Glacier.

There is a silver lining to every cloud and the lack of motion of the ship yesterday allowed us to have a very pleasant Christmas lunch. The Galley crew did us proud and an amazing banquet was provided many thanks to those guys. It was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone. Santa arrived to hand out presents later in the afternoon, he bore a striking resemblance to Bosun Joe but a lot more jolly and definitely a lot more giving.!! The activities were organised by our nominee for “volunteer of the year” Kate S ably assisted by Beartriz, Kate B and Esmee. Thanks from all of us for making it a special day especially as we are away from family and loved ones at this time of year.

Cheers

Tony & Lloyd
