We continue at a good speed and progressing to Casey well ahead of schedule.
At 0200hr this morning we retrieved and deployed the acoustic whale mooring. The procedure went without a hitch and was a resounding success. Lloyd with a team of ship’s crew and enthusiastic observers “pinged” the mooring which duly float to the surface right on cue and it appeared about 80m in front of the ship with the strobe light operating an exciting sight for all who were there. It was then straightforward to bring on board the mooring and deploy the new one. That’s the first objective under our belt with more to come.
Last night Tim gave a presentation on the types and use of rescue helicopters in Australia. As with all presentations thus far this was well attended and appreciated.
As we move towards Casey we are being treated to aerial displays by various seabirds, varieties of Petrels and Sooty Albatross to name a few. We also witnessed humpback whales passing the ship yesterday, so there's been plenty to get the keen photographers excited about and the bridge was quite crowded.
We are in open pack ice now anticipated to become more closed this afternoon after that we should be in open water and into Casey.
Cheers,

Tony & Lloyd
