Another good 24 hours with another days run exceeding 300nm. This morning the first iceberg was spotted at 62. 18 S and 120.20 E. The winner of the spot the iceberg competition was Tony who graciously donated his winnings to camp quality. The event raised about $140 for the charity
Last night Pete gave a great presentation on the challenges facing Australian Quarantine in northern Australia between Cairns and Broome. Whilst we are focussed on the environment in the most southerly part of the Australian territory it was interesting to hear about the array of threats to the environment in the far north of the country.
Tonight or early tomorrow morning we plan to retrieve an acoustic whale mooring and deploy a new one in its place. Review of relevant procedures is in progress to ensure the operation is carried out safely, successfully and with minimal disruption to our voyage to Casey. Planning and organising is in full swing for the first phase of our voyage which is resupply of Casey
All are in good spirits many are watching for icebergs and wildlife. There were reported sightings of whales from the bridge this morning.
