Comments

A more uncomfortable night with some heavy rolling of the ship disturbing sleep for many. This morning the seas have abated somewhat with winds dropping to around 20 knots and the forecast now looks favourable until at least we reach the fast ice edge. We are progressing very well at a steady speed of around 13 knots. Yesterday the ship passed through the Antarctic Convergence Zone where the sea transitions to a much lower temperature. We are far enough south now where icebergs are possible. A sweep is being run as to who can guess the time and date of the spotting of the first iceberg.

Last night Chris gave a great presentation on his trek to K2 in north Pakistan back in the 80’s. We have some well-travelled people on board. This was followed by a quiz night thoroughly enjoyed by all. Stacey, Kate and Andy did a great job organising.
We are 467nm from our first waypoint where we will carry out our first objective of the voyage which is the retrieval of an acoustic whale mooring which was deployed 2 years ago and the deployment of a new mooring in its place.

Cheers
Tony and Lloyd
