Another great run yesterday had us breaking out of the difficult ice zone at 2330 local time, followed by a quick run to the fast-ice edge, arriving at 0930 this morning. We have broken in a little way, and are now in the process of readying helicopters to transfer expeditioners involved in cargo operations ashore to complete their inductions, prior to the ship continuing breaking in to its preferred anchorage position. We need to be within 4 km of station to undertake refuelling operations, and we have about 10 km of 1.2 to 1.4 m thick fast ice to travel through. We have great conditions at the moment, so fingers crossed…
All the best, Doug and Dave
