Comments

It was a busy day yesterday, with brilliant Hobart weather for our departure for Davis Station. Eighty expeditioners joined the twenty-three crew members aboard the RSV Aurora Australis, for the first voyage of the ship’s 25th season to the ice. The last of the cargo was loaded aboard at 1657, and we cast off at 1833, and headed down the Derwent River. We have some 550 t of cargo onboard, plus fuel for a year-and-a-bit for the station. We’ve had kind conditions so far, and many people surfaced this morning at breakfast, and probably even a few more at lunchtime. The Continuous Plankton Recorder was deployed this morning at 0800, but otherwise it’s been a quiet day, with most of us just getting accustomed to the motion of the ship, and becoming acquainted with our shipmates.
All the best, Doug and Dave
