Comments

We arrived in Buckles Bay at Macquarie Island at 1pm yesterday and by 1.30pm the Station Leader had came aboard for station inductions and watercraft briefings for the expeditioners going to the island. Our three returning expeditioners also came on board, had a ship induction and then helped us move cargo. By 4pm we had completed all cargo operations and passenger transfers other than a pick up at 8am this morning. The operation went smoothly, efficiently and safely and I wish to thank all on board the L’Astrolabe and on station for their assistance in making this happen.
Last night the three returning wintering personnel received their winter medallions. It was a lovely experience to be able to present them with their medallions in recognition of their contribution to the Australian Antarctic Program.
We departed Buckles Bay this morning at 8.30am and are making our way back to Hobart. The seas are not being kind to us so we are either bunkered down in our beds or in the lounge watching movies as these are the most comfortable locations on a rolling ship. All are safe and well on board.
Cheers
Leanne
