Yesterday we got a full day of flying in and we took full advantage of the conditions. We managed to get 36 ship to shore helicopter transfers completed, and in total we moved 32,077Kg of cargo. This included another 13 IBCs of SAB which saw another 11,330L of diesel fuel transferred ashore. The total we have now transferred is 22,380L of diesel ashore.
All personnel at both the ship and station ends did a great job yesterday, so well done to you all.
Yesterday evening Mawson station was officially handed over to the 2014 Wintering Team under the management of Station Leader Steve. Well done to Cookie and his 2013 team on a job well done during the 2013 winter and we look forward to having you out on the ship soon.
Our weather forecasters got things spot on today unfortunately, we awoke to a fine morning but things quickly changed and the conditions we are experiencing will rule out flying operations today. Strong winds, lots of snow and virtually zero visibility are not conditions that you'd want to be trying to fly a helicopter in! Hopefully tomorrow things will clear up and by the afternoon we may be able to start flying again... fingers crossed.
Cheers,
Deepy and Brett
