Last night the ship’s clocks were moved forward by an hour for the last time making our arrival back in Hobart seem that little bit closer.
Strong winds behind the ship are keeping us on schedule for a sunrise cruise up the Derwent on Saturday and the ‘station leader’ weather our forecasters say we can expect to greet us.
Yesterday’s routine love your lifejacket safety inspection turned up a few imaginative items tucked away in a couple of jackets that some obviously take as essential safety accessories for life on the high seas.
The documentary Mary Meets Mohammad (MMM) screened in the theatrette last night. It provides a personal account of the change in local reaction to the establishment of the Pontville asylum seeker detention centre (just outside Hobart). All that viewed it left better informed on the plight faced by asylum seekers in Australia. The ensuing discussion again highlighted the strong links and interest expeditioners have in humanitarian related work during the Antarctic off-season.
Those staying up late into the night again got to see an Aurora Australis.
