Yesterday evening, following the announcement that we are now returning
to Hobart, the crew and expeditioners aboard enjoyed a BBQ and drinks
catered for by the galley staff and station cooks. A very good way to
break the ice whilst breaking the ice.
This morning the ship awoke to overcast skies as we gradually made our
way through the remaining ice floes. Those aboard are making good use of
the calm conditions to undertake gym and physical training sessions, as
well as routine domestic duties. No training seminars are scheduled for
today leaving the rec-room free for expeditioners to catch up on the
latest films and television series or to settle back into their cabins
with a book.
Also this morning, the air sampler was relocated from the monkeydeck to
the heli-deck. This was done so that the sampler will stand in the
prevailing winds for the return leg to Hobart and will not be
contaminated by the ship’s exhaust.
The voyage management team remain busy with post-resupply assessments
and evaluations as well as continuous checking of the storage systems
transporting scientific samples back to Hobart.
The ships clocks are being advanced one hour this evening making us UTC +8.
It is anticipated that we will be returning to Hobart at the beginning
of March however a specific date of arrival will be nominated in the
coming days.
Cheers,
Andy, Brett, Dave and James.
