Comments

The Aurora Australis remains anchored off Davis a bit more than half a
nautical mile, or around 1.2 kilometres, from shore in around 15 metres
of water.

This morning we were greeted by balmy conditions with the mercury
sneaking into positive territory.

After dinner last night a bulldozer, weighting around 22 tonnes, was
craned over the side onto the ‘Peter Gormley’ barge and safely
transported ashore. The barge has recently been modified to make these
heavy lifts a quicker operation and all involved considered it great
success. The reason for moving the cargo so late in the day was to take
advantage of a period of low winds that coincided with a suitablly high
tide.

Those expeditioners getting ashore have a pleasant five minute walk from
the wharf up to the station passed a group of around 20 adolescent
elephant seals.

Cheers, Andy, Brett, Dave and James.
