Comments

Both engines have been in use for a period in order to speed our progress towards Casey with the intention of arriving in conjunction with suitable weather for undertaking ship to shore operations. This is in no way related to the Voyage Leader winning the iceberg sweep for the third year running!

The CONOPS document for Casey resupply and Return to Australia (RTA) activities has been finalised.

We passed 60 degrees south this morning meaning we are now officially in Antarctic waters. As is tradition, King Neptune has been seen in the galley cooking up a delight for those that haven’t made a sea passage this far south before!

All of the ARGO floats for this southern leg of the voyage have now been deployed with the last going over the side at 0300 last night (thanks Brett and Chris)! The on-board aquarium used to keep Antarctic critters alive during the return to Australia has been checked and appears to be working well, and the ongoing regime of seawater and air sampling continues.

The hours of daylight we now have has increased significantly.

Dave Pinch’s highlights from the galley are the prawn curry and leftover Christmas cake which is still going strong.

Cheers,

Andy, Brett, Dave, James
