The first of eight ARGO floats planned to be deployed during the voyage was released this morning as we crossed 53 degrees south. The float will collect data as part of the Southern Ocean observation system, which is helping scientist better understand the role of the Southern Ocean in climate change processes.
Meanwhile inside, in the library, the first of a number of the training sessions was taking place, with a group of expeditioners getting to grips with basic rope work and knot tying skills under the expert guidance of their Field Training Officer.
Planning with the watercraft operators for barge operations between the ship and Casey is now in full swing to ensure all is in readiness for our arrival, and the efficient completion of this leg of the voyage.
Cheers
