Comments

Voyage 4 is initially heading for Casey Station, then Davis, with the primary purpose of resupplying Mawson Station.

We departed Hobart at 0600 providing expeditioners with the rare chance of passing under the Tasman Bridge at sunrise.

After breakfast all settled into sorting out their cabins with some taking a little extra time in bed to assist in finding their sea legs.

Work then started in earnest with a range of science projects and planning meetings getting underway. Seawater and air sampling commenced as part of the Southern Hemisphere Persistent Organic Pollutant (POP) Global Monitoring System.

Preliminary planning for the resupply operations at Casey, Davis and Mawson started as well as the identification of an on-board crisis management team with relevant skills to ensure the safety of all.

The small Bureau of Meteorology Team got into their schedule of round the clock weather observations.

The calm conditions provided copious opportunities for the sighting of seals, dolphins and the famed big wave hot spot, Petra Blanca.

Cheers

Andy, Brett, Dave, James
