We are now at Davis after 22 days at sea, the ship is “anchored” in the fast ice 1800 metres from the station. This morning all remaining expeditioners on board were transferred to the station. Yesterday afternoon we had an opportunity to transfer key resupply personnel to the station for inductions. This has given us a head start on resupply and the first cargo was unloaded mid morning today. Resupply is underway. This morning before commencing resupply a cargo marshalling area was prepared on the sea ice next to the ship using a Snow groomer and a Front End Loader, Misty and Paul did a great job, it’s a superb flat area to work on. The ice is 1.6 metres thick and like a concrete slab.
Over the next 24 hours as well as cargo operations proceeding we will commence deployment of refuelling equipment ready for delivery of SAB (special Antarctic Blend) diesel to the station from the ship. This will happen concurrently with cargo operations
The ship now feels deserted after bidding farewell to the 88 expeditioners who have gone ashore.
Cheers Tony and Mike
