Comments

We have made solid progress again in the last 24 hours. We conducted a short helicopter recce this morning to ensure we were taking the correct route as the sea ice changes with drift. We are anticipating solid progress again over the next 24 hours.
Today is Melbourne cup day and a sweep has been organised thanks to Bill and Kate our resident bookies. At lunch the mess was graced with impeccably styled expeditioners in their finest racing outfits and stylish headgear. There was even a guest appearance by a horse complete with Jockey a brilliant creation by Tina, Kalum, Charlie and Ben, it’s amazing what “can do” people can make with next to nothing. We listened to the race about an hour after it was actually run due to the efforts of Ian at Kingston and Stuart on the ship.
Last night Bianca delivered a presentation about satellites and geophysics again appreciated by all there. Whilst this voyage has been protracted due to the ice conditions we will all disembark with far more knowledge than when we embarked in Hobart some 21 days ago.

Cheers Tony and Mike
