The ice recce yesterday by both rotary and fixed wing from the Aurora Australis and Davis Station respectively provided a plethora of information regarding ice floes and leads towards the south east and south west of our location. Yesterday afternoon we commenced on a revised course based on the new observations and over the last 24 hours have made good progress. There was a feeling of high expectation on the bridge last night with the ship moving at a reasonable speed through the leads.
Nick our resident cartoonist (and carpenter) has been busy with his daily cryptic cartoons whereby we have to guess the title of the subject which the drawing cryptically refers to. The answers have an Antarctic reference which does give the experienced expeditioners a big advantage. No prizes just the kudos of getting it right.
Last night, John our resident artist (we just about have a resident for everything) gave us a presentation on his life as an artist which was of great interest not just for the visual impact of the slides but for how an artist makes his mark in the world. Most on board are from a scientific or Engineering background so it was an amazing insight into a totally different field.
Cheers Tony and Mike
