Comments

The helicopter ice recce (reconnaissance) was cancelled yesterday afternoon due to deteriorating weather conditions. We carried on along a south westerly route overnight seeking leads impeded by sections of very heavy ice, progress was slow. This morning weather conditions have improved and a helicopter ice recce is in progress in an endeavour to confirm leads identified on satellite ice imagery and to find a way through to Davis. The results of this recce will be assessed when to hand.
All on board are well and understanding of the risks involved in early season voyages to Antarctica in terms of heavy sea ice. A very competitive darts tournament is in progress which we are now down to the last 14. Its Halloween tonight and expeditioners are being encouraged to wear something scary for dinner; some would say it would suffice if they came dressed as “normal”.
Morale remains good in spite of the setback and everyone is in good health.

Cheers Tony and Mike
