Comments

We have made good progress overnight with better visibility and lighter ice conditions. We are now on a south westerly course on a direct route to Davis however we have started to encounter heavy ice conditions again which has begun to slow our progress.
The weather has been persistently overcast with low visibility due to a slow moving low to our north west. We are hoping for clearer conditions this afternoon in order to conduct a successful ice reconnaissance utilising a fixed wing aircraft from Davis. This reconnaissance will assist us in finding the best route through the ice to Davis.
Yesterday evening John gave us a presentation on the time he has spent at Davis. John has been to the Antarctic with the Australian program for decades now and his wealth of experience and “local knowledge” is a bonus for the new expeditioners on board.

Cheers Tony and Mike
