Comments

We are now into the sea ice which at present is broken ice floes that the ship is pushing through. Conditions are now very smooth and expeditioners are appreciative of the conditions on board. The ship is being expertly steered through the ice to minimise impact on the vessel and to optimise our speed.
Over the last 24 hours seals and penguins have been sighted on the ice causing many to grab their cameras and proceed outside to take photographs. Unfortunately the sunny day yesterday has given way to one of poor visibility and lack of definition.
Expeditioner briefings have continued over the last 24 hours with operational briefings for cargo and refuelling personnel. These were delivered by Kenny, Steve, Paul & Tony. This covered the safety requirements of the work as well as the operational detail. There was also an environmental briefing delivered by Kate this morning explaining the importance of not taking alien species (insects or seeds) into Antarctica. Cleaning and vacuuming of boots and kit will commence this afternoon. Field training is ongoing.
Morale is good with a strong rumour running around of a visit by King Neptune sometime today.
Cheers Tony and Mike
