We continue in a direct westerly direction into strong headwinds to 25 knots. Whilst our progress has been impeded the use of the second engine has allowed us to make reasonable speed. We are expected to reach the ice edge in 48 hours time before turning south west into the pack ice and then through the fast ice into Davis.
The entertainment committee has initiated the popular shipboard game “Assassin” where expeditioners eliminate each other (figuratively speaking) in a game of stealth and deceit until one person-the winner is left standing. It has proved a popular game on many voyages. Advice to all expeditioners on board- watch your back!!
Last night Barb gave a presentation on her specific area of expertise and research, Emperor Penguins. It was very well attended and greatly appreciated. Barb is always passionate about her work and last night was no exception
The Field training Officers on Board Simon and Anthea are busy delivering training on the voyage. The subject matter includes GPS navigation, sea ice travel and weather. This has also been complemented by Communications operator Mick who has been running training sessions in the use of radio communications. These sessions will give expeditioners a good grounding before they commence the on station aspects of this training. All on board are well and spirits are high.
Cheers Tony and Mike
