Comments

We continue in a direct westerly direction into strong headwinds in excess of 25 knots. This has slowed our progress somewhat. We remain on a direct course to Davis.
The entertainment committee had organised the traditional “spot the first iceberg” sweepstake and the winner was Josh who correctly picked the time and date, this being 5:18 am this morning. The iceberg has to be at least the size of the ship to comply with the rules of the competition. Earlier yesterday an iceberg was spotted but was ruled undersize by the Voyage Leader. Some expeditioners on board suggested that it actually wasn’t undersize and that the Voyage Leader had excluded it because it hadn’t coincided with the date and time that he had picked in the sweepstake. That of course is incorrect the Voyage Leaders integrity is beyond question. Half the funds collected in the sweepstake will be donated to the Camp Quality Charity which is supported by the Aurora Australis crew and all who sail on her.
Last night Renato gave us a presentation on his travels to Northern Italy, Morrocco and the Netherlands, it was a terrific video much appreciated by everyone. Renato then showed a video of a Morrocan themed night held on Davis Station last season. It gave all the new expeditioners an insight as to what they can expect socially when they get to station.
Training sessions and briefings are now in full swing in order that we are ready to go into top gear once we reach Davis. Everyone on board is looking forward to getting there and starting work.

Cheers
Tony and Mike
