Ahoy Shipmates (for the last time!)
We have now completed all of our science requirements, have transited through a very calm and peaceful Cook Strait, and have now altered course to the south west to cross Tasman Bay into Nelson. We saw our final NZ Blue whale last night, we even had to rig the spotlight so we could see it! Spotlighting for whales is another world first achieved this voyage!
Today has been busy with the major part of the packup of our equipment and the de-rigging of antennas etc. All gear is now packed and ready for off load and stowage in the shipping containers for return to Australia. Everything has happened pretty efficiently and most of the team are enjoying some quiet time in the calm conditions taking in the views as we steam past D'urville Island. The voyage has been a fantastic adventure, not only from the point of view of the spectacular scientific achievements, but also for the teamwork and comraderie we have shared. A big thanks also to John, Andy and the crew from Gardline/Talley's for their hard work, perseverance and good humour for making the voyage great.
Thanks again for following our story as it has unfolded,
Regards Chris, Margaret, and the VWhales Team
