Comments

Our run of mostly favourable weather is at an end, and the weather has now turned decidedly uncomfortable. While we are still undertaking sonobuoy drops every 30nm, they are only for detection purposes as we will be unable to do anything useful with the whales until things calm down a bit.

The upside of the weather is that everyone gets to enjoy a break from routine, and "manage fatigue" which is code for having a sleep or watching a movie because you don't have to be on watch. Voyage Management are now in the process of planning and preparing for our return to Nelson, New Zealand on Sunday 17 March (weather permitting!).

Otherwise, all is well onboard as we make our way slowly to the north west towards the middle of the survey area.

Regards Chris, Margaret, and the VWhales Team
