Overnight we had a quiet evening with only distant blue whale calls on acoustics. Throughout the day we passaged slowly eastward with the intention of finding further whales in that direction, however besides a few humpbacks, minkes and fin whales, not much to report. This morning we launched the Remora in an attempt to take some humpback biopsies adjacent to a large ice berg, however they must have read the AAD iceberg rules because they stayed closer to the berg than we are allowed to approach. We did however get some great photos, and the ship's fast rescue craft was given a run as well.
We have now gone as far east as is intended on this voyage - the decision has been taken to return to the area of greatest concentration of blue whales so far to continue with the ID, biopsy and tagging process. The weather continues to assist, with light winds and calm seas.
All is well aboard the good ship "Amaltal Explorer".
Until Tomorrow,
Regards Chris, Margaret, and the VWhales Team
