Hello All,

We have has an interesting 24 hours during which the classic movie program has run to "Moby Dick" and we have begun to get really good acoustic intercepts on groups of blue whales off the ice edge. This morning was particularly interesting as we dropped multiple sonobuoys in an attempt to localize the position of the groups of whales, which so far still seem to be some hundreds of miles away. This afternoon we have had to stop the ship
for about an hour to effect a repair to the hydraulic pitch pump which controls the pitch of the propeller, but as I write thinks have been set to rights and we are underway once more to the western side of the survey area.

Tomorrow will be our last full day outside the survey area and so weather permitting we will complete the weekly emergency muster drill, make our final preparations for the science project, and perhaps even welcome a well known royal personage onboard to welcome some pollywogs into his watery domain.

Until tomorrow,

Chris, Margaret, and the VWhales Team
