Ahoy Shipmates!
The "furious fifites" are living up to their reputation and as we bash our way south into the big southern ocean swell, we are being slowed by the regular walls of water we encounter. Our average speed has been reduced to around nine knots, with the effect that our arrival in the survey area (in the "screaming sixties") will be delayed slightly to sometime late Friday.
The weather has also been too rough for the observers team to do anything useful, however our acousticians have still been able to deploy buoys and listen out for whales. Unfortunately there hasn't been much to report over th last 24 hours.
Our team of Antarctic weather forecasters who are providing our weather information are spot on with their updates - hopefully this weather should ease by late tomorrow and back around into the north and help us on our way.
Until tomorrow,
Chris, Margaret, and the VWhales Team
