Ahoy Shipmates!
As we passage southwards the weather has begun deteriorating and by Tuesday
we are expecting 30-40 knot winds and rough seas which may slow us down
somewhat.
The ship is now well established in routine and the galley team continue to
pump out great food. Final preparations are being made for our arrival in
the survey area in about four days time. This afternoon the ship's crew were
briefed in detail on the project work we are undertaking by Professor Jay
Barlow, our Science Team Leader. The crew were also treated to a showing of
the documentary on the Tangaroa voyage of 2010, during which the processes
and procedures which we are using were developed.
The other excitement of the day was an attempt to fly the antenna kite
utilised for increasing our sonobuoy reception range. Unfortunately the wind
was a bit too strong, and so we will try again another day.
Until tomorrow,
Regards Chris, Margaret, and VWhales team
