Comments

I feel an odd exhilarating shiver run through me, the ice has finally started to show signs of breaking up. In one hour the thin crack 800m ahead went from a few metres wide to 50m wide, the floe we are on turning slowly anticlockwise at about a degree an hour. It doesn't seem that spectacular until you consider the vast amount of energy necessary to move hundreds of millions of tons of ice at even a snail's pace!

The last of the science equipment is being packed up ready for us to attempt a departure after dinner tonight.

We still have about a kilometre of ice, averaging 6m thick between us and open water, but we are hopeful that eventually we will be able to displace enough ice to set us free.

Cheers
Andy, Brett
