Comments

Blue skies at last, rather than cloud and mist.

We have just flown a reconnaissance and RAPPL's (Radar, Aerial Photography, Pyrometer, Laser Scanner) test and calibration flight and will fly a full RAPPL's flight to the south this afternoon. The reconnaissance flight has identified large leads a few miles to stern which may come in handy when we depart station 7.

Science continues on the ice with a number of projects benefiting from a longer station. Up till now most of the stations have been for only one or two nights and so the opportunity to stay longer lets scientists measuring snow fall accumulation and distribution, or the movement of ice through a pressure ridge, gather valuable data.

Last night we had a Special Occasion to raise funds for Camp Quality (http://www.mycampquality.org.au/auroraaustralis), the theme was "Keep your hair on". Heads were shaved, some quite creatively, assuming the recipients price could be met! At the last tally we had raised over $6000. There are a lot of unfamiliar faces around today!

Cheers
Andy, Brett
