Comments

We have moved 9.8 nautical miles in the last 24 hours, mostly by drifting in the pack. The weather remains "average" to say the least with visibility rarely more than a few hundred metres.

We ran the krill pump last night until 2:30am but no krill were caught.
Better luck next time Rob!

Lots of people have been catching up with science and sleep...

Christian our FTO (Field Training Officer) has offered to do some more basic training, the big question is what sort of basic training did you have in mind?

SAR (Search And Rescue) training seems to be the order of the day with a session for both the ships crew and AAD expeditioners, run by Christian, the Chief Mate and the ships doctor, looking at various routes to the medical facility on C deck. From the ice access gangway from the tweens deck at the front of the ship and from the trawl deck at the aft of the ship. The trick is to identify the casualty priorities prior to choosing a route, whether they need to be moved as fast as possible or whether they need to be kept horizontal and handled gently, both impact on which route will be used in a real emergency. Nothing's ever quite as simple as it may seem onboard an ice breaker in Antarctica...

Cheers

Andy, Brett
