Staring out the window at the fading evening light the ice looks
incredibly thick, jumbled, rafted and snow covered... We parked last
night at what proved to be the shortest ice station, ice station 5.
Most of the ice was metres thick rather than centimetres and unworkable
for a lot of the projects. Petra still left an ice dynamics buoy and the
trace metal team did a Trace Metal Rosette (TMR).
We are now in search of ice station 6. Hopefully we will be able to put
a helicopter in the air later today for a reconnaissance flight and
possibly to deploy some more of Petra's buoys
Cheers
Andy, Brett
