I’m supposed to be working this afternoon but have watched a movie
instead! It's not often that we get a chance to take time out and relax
on SIPEX II, with most of us working long hours during the ice stations
and some, just as hard afterwards as they process data and run lab
experiments on the samples they have collected. The chance to take a few
hours off during the day therefore is pretty rare...

Today marks the half way point of our voyage...

Tonight all of the scientists onboard have been asked to do a brief
presentation of their work thus far. It will be an opportunity for
Voyage Management and the chief Scientist, Klaus to assess how
effectively we are supporting the different projects onboard.
We have been in transit since leaving ice station 4 yesterday afternoon.
The science support staff, krill biologists and Aurora crew are using
the time in transit to move the krill pump and associated equipment to
the CTD room and install it. we then hope to be able to lower a hose
under the ice and catch krill by vacuuming them up. Tonight will be our
first try as the vessel is stationary in heavy blowing snow.

Cheers

Andy, Brett
