Comments

The first ice station wasn't quite as successful as we had first hoped.
Shortly after dinner a crack appeared in the ice floe, causing us to
abandon it. We spent the night searching south for better options.

This morning the clouds cleared overhead and Klaus our Chief scientist
flexible as always, managed to go from coffee to helicopter rides in no
time at all. The flight was a success and a suitable floe spotted
earlier on the MODIS satellite image by Jan, was overflown. We arrived a
few hours later, using two engines to break ice for the first time.

The remainder of the day will be spent mooring the vessel and preparing
the transects for tomorrow.

Cheers

Andy, Brett
