Well, Wednesday turned out to be a bust for refuelling. With the wind blowing 30-35 knots till just after lunch, and a refuelling operation scheduled to take 8-10 hours, we were simply going to run out of daylight so it has been postponed till a more favourable weather window which looks like early next week at this stage.
After another night and most of today sailing up and down the coast of Macquarie Island waiting for the wind to abate, we finally managed to set the anchor in Buckles Bay @ 1230hrs and commenced cargo ops with more fly off cargo for the helo’s with the last 46 cage pallets and one half height of mixed fuel discharged and have loaded over 30 odd cage pallets of RTA (Return To Australia) cargo. The larger items of cargo have been discharged to station in 8 loads into station by LARC.
The down island field hut resupply is also underway by helicopter and the 5 plateau huts have all been completed and the Communications repeater work is also well advanced and nearing completion.
Round trip science programs are also going well both in the field and on station with most nearing completion.
We have just raised the anchor and have started to move off the coast ready for yet more sailing up and down the island.
Regards Micky, Martin & Pud.
