We arrived at Macquarie Island at 1840hrs local (Sunday) and due to the lateness of our arrival and the inclement weather we commenced cutting a number of laps up and down the island on the eastern side out of the wind and swell for the night.
We dropped anchor at 0735 hrs local this morning (Monday) and commenced preparation of the helicopters for disembarkation from the vessel , PAX transfers to station came next via Inflatable Rubber Boat whilst we readied the LARCS (“Ex-Army Ducks”).
All in all by helicopter and LARC we have so far today discharged 61 tonnes of cargo, deployed 17 personnel into the field down island and sent 50 odd roundtrip personnel into “town” for the day.
Plan for tomorrow is more of the same weather permitting. Wednesday is looking like our earliest opportunity for refuelling at this stage.
