Yesterday afternoon we continued with cargo operations and completed the transfer from ship to shore of a new excavator. This was done utilising the uniflotes which were assembled for that purpose. The old excavator coming out of Mawson will be back loaded today. We had also completed the refuelling of the station by 2100hrs. We delivered 340,000 litres and emptied the ships SAB (Special Antarctic Blend) tanks. Whilst the hose length from the ship to the shore at Mawson is significantly less than Davis the stringent checking and rechecking of actions is still valid. The refuelling was completed competently without incident.
This morning we have been delayed in our start of cargo and passenger operations due to high Katabatic winds. Whilst detrimental to our resupply operations the Mawson Wind Turbines are thriving on them. These winds are forecasted to abate late morning and we will recommence operations when it is safe to do so.
Cheers Tony and Simon
