Yesterday went exactly to plan with some cargo delivered to station from outside the harbour in the afternoon after the winds had reached acceptable levels. At 1800hrs the ship entered Horseshoe Harbour and was moored in position by 2100hrs. The Voyage and Station teams along with the Aurora Australis Crew did a terrific job which ensured a safe and efficient mooring operation.
This morning we have commenced a program of taking Davis expeditioners across to Mawson Station to allow them to inspect the infrastructure on, and scenery around, the station. Whilst this is happening we are delivering cargo to station over the short 80 metre distance between ship and shore utilising the Jet Barge. We are also setting up refuelling equipment in readiness to deliver 350,000 litres of Diesel (Special Antarctic Blend) to the Stations’ fuel storage tanks. The refuelling will be commenced and completed by the end of today.
All on board continue to be in good health and temper and looking forward to their tours of Mawson Station.
Cheers Tony and Simon
