Yesterday cargo operations commenced in the afternoon with the ship positioned outside the harbour and the jet barge operating between ship and shore. The first priority was mail, fresh fruit and frozen food. All in all a satisfying afternoon’s work with 35 tonnes of cargo delivered to station. Operations were curtailed late afternoon due to wind speeds exceeding our safe operating parameters. The ship was then moved out to open water and we remain there until weather conditions improve which is planned to be tomorrow (Friday). This morning we received the good news from Mawson that the remaining ice in the harbour was blown out overnight. The mooring of the ship in the harbour when we return will now be unhindered.
Also delivered yesterday was critical round trip project equipment and materials which ensures the round trip projects will proceed unhindered on station whilst we wait out the weather at sea.
We are presently experiencing a moderate roll on the ship which is only to be expected in these weather conditions.
Cheers Tony and Simon
