We arrived at Mawson at 0900 hrs today. A number of enthusiastic expeditioners were out of their bunks in the early hours of the morning as we passed through the amazing “iceberg alley” into Mawson. As expected there is still ice in the harbour at Mawson which will need to be cleared by the ship and winds before we can start resupply operations.
Transfer of Mawson winterers and other key personnel from ship to shore will commence this afternoon via fly-off. The 2 helicopters on board are being bladed up ready for deployment.
The ingoing Mawson wintering expeditioners were in awe of the beauty surrounding their new home as we approached it. Mawson Station is nestled at the bottom of the ice plateau and overlooked by the imposing Mt. Henderson.
Cheers
Tony and Simon
