With 3 blasts from the ships horn the Aurora Australis departed Davis for Mawson at midday today (local time) leaving behind the wintering expeditioners who will remain at Davis until November. The resupply at Davis is now complete with all cargo ashore and all RTA cargo on board the ship well stowed so as not to impede the resupply at Mawson. The transit to Mawson is expected to take approximately 2 days and we expect to arrive there on the morning of 05 February. On our passage to Mawson we will be trawling for Krill which is a set objective for this voyage.

Planning is now in full swing for the visit to Mawson. Resupply, round trip projects and station handover is all being considered prior to our arrival so that activities can proceed seamlessly soon after our arrival.

We have a more heavily populated ship now the Davis expeditioners have joined us. There was some sadness at leaving Davis however all are in good spirits and looking forward to getting home.

Cheers

Tony and Simon
