Operations commenced at Davis early yesterday afternoon with the deployment of expeditioners to the station by Jet Barge. The 10 minute trip was across a calming sea with the winds abating. After a visit to the ship by Mark, the Davis Beach master to view the cargo on board, cargo operations were commenced with priority cargo and mail being the first to be offloaded. Cargo operations were then continuous until 2000 hrs. This morning the uniflotes were assembled beside the ship. Uniflotes are modular pontoons which are linked together to form a large floating platform which enables large and heavy pieces of cargo( beyond the capacity of the jet barge) to be conveyed between ship and shore. This was expertly supervised by Dave who is our on-board expert in uniflotes. He was ably assisted by a team of Mawson wintering expeditioners.
The station refuellers Brad and Zach yesterday briefed the Davis team who will manage the shore end refuelling equipment and provide fuel farm monitoring. This is in readiness for when we refuel the station from the ship within the next day or so.
Those who went ashore are well into their round trip projects, the station are providing many resources and support to ensure these get completed within the resupply window.
All on board are well and all are enthusiastically going about their work. What a way to spend Australia Day
Cheers
Tony and Simon
