Comments

The calm seas continue and we made excellent progress in the last 24 hours. The estimated time of arrival (ETA) at Davis is midday on Thursday 24 January which is ahead of schedule. If the weather at Davis is forecasted to be poor and we are unable to commence resupply without significant delay we may trawl for Krill before Davis in order to acquire more Krill stock for the Antarctic Divisions Krill Laboratory at Kingston. The trawl net and equipment was tested today by a team of expeditioners and Aurora Australis crew

It was a special day yesterday. Mid afternoon we had a royal visit from King Neptune who welcomed those expeditioners and Aurora Australis crew who were entering his Southern Ocean domain (past the 60 deg south latitude) for the first time. They were warmly welcomed and couldn’t fail but to be impressed by the Kings regal standing and generosity. The King recognised the Voyage Leader from a previous voyage and extended to him a special warm welcome. Strangely this appeared to be more appreciated by the expeditioners than the Voyage Leader himself. In the evening we celebrated Australia Day on board, nearly a week early to fit in with the Davis resupply schedule. An Aussie themed pizza night was the go. The pizzas were outstanding. Thanks to the Galley team Leon, Aaron, Alan, Stuart, Darcy and Lynn and all the Aurora Australis crew who made it a really special night.

With us now arriving at Davis early we are now compressing our preparations to fit the new schedule.

Cheers

Tony and Simon
