Voyage 3 departed Selfs point yesterday (13/01/2013) at 0950 local time with 38 expeditioners on board. The objective of this voyage is to complete the resupply of both Davis and Mawson Stations, to deliver and retrieve expeditioning crews on both those stations and to execute round trip science projects.
After experiencing the scenery of the trip down the Derwent into storm bay all on board got down to organising themselves for the leg to Davis. A practice muster on the heli-deck took place early in the day to ensure everyone knew what is expected in the event of an emergency this was followed by familiarisation of medical and Breathing Apparatus (BA) equipment for our newly formed medical and firefighting teams.
The southern ocean is providing us with a gentle roll however we are sure it will have some surprises up its sleeve before we reach Davis. The ship is initially being steered in a westerly direction prior to heading south in order to bypass a significant weather system. All on board are well and in good spirits looking forward to the days and weeks ahead.
Cheers
Tony and Simon
