Hello all,
The last 24 hrs has been a busy time onboard with the Voyage Management Team sorting through the details of the casey resupply, creating rosters and plans and organizing our detailed program in the lead up to our arrival at Casey. So far we are making good time and are expecting to be at the ice edge on Monday, which is Christmas Eve. Due to the fact that Christmas will likely be day one of resupply, the ship has brought Christmas forward to Sunday. Preparations are well on foot with the public areas of the ship (bridge included) being “decked” with decorations. The iceberg sweepstake is now up and running, with the proceeds going to charity. We are also having a program of short talks from expeditioners on specialist subject, last night’s being from Trevor Gadd, our ANARE Club member in residence on the topic of his time in Macquarie Island in the 1960s. Everyone seems to gotten over their seasickness and there are now more people around, and the dessert bar is beginning to get busy. Just as well there is plenty for everyone.
In the next 48 hours we will cover off our environmental preparations for arrival at Casey. This includes a formal brief on environmental protection in Antarctica, protection of animal species, and preparations of clothing and equipment. There will also be the usual round of briefings and reviews of standard operating procedures and risk assessments for the forthcoming resupply.
Until tomorrow,
REGARDS: Chris, Leanne, and the V2 Team
