The struggle is over... we cleared the sea ice in the early afternoon of yesterday and then sailed approximately through 90nm of open water to make our approach in to Davis. It was quite amazing that within an hour, from seeing nothing but ice on the horizon we could see nothing but open water. During this period the skies cleared and we had beautiful sunshine for our run into station.

The approach into Davis was very spectacular as the crew weaved through a small band of ice and around huge grounded ice bergs. All onboard we enjoying the view from the decks and cameras were really getting a work out. After setting its anchor, we had finally arrived at Davis at approximately 2220 hours.

This morning the skies are clear and the wind is light, thus Davis lives up to its reputation as the "Riviera of the South". Passenger transfers commenced at 0800 hours, and since then we have been transferring a steady stream of passengers from the ship to the station. Once those passenger transfers are complete we'll start transferring the cargo ashore. Some of the AAD aviation personnel who were onboard the vessel have been deployed to the Plough Island skiway to conduct inspections of the skiway for fixed wing aircraft landings.

Cheers,

Andrew and Mark
