Comments

As predicted by our trusty Met. Team, conditions eased off late yesterday evening and we are now chugging along quite nicely in a gentle rolling sea. It was lovely and sunny this morning which bought quite a few people up onto the decks for a taste of crisp Southern Ocean air or for a bit of exercise, with laps of the heli deck proving popular with expeditioners this morning.

The onboard field training program has commenced, ably run by the two ingoing Davis Field training Officers (FTOs). Their first training session is occurring as I type this, with a course in the use of hand held VHF radios, an essential communication tool on station given that mobile phone reception is a little bit difficult to source in Antarctica. The second CPR was successfully retrieved yesterday afternoon at approximately 1540hrs and the third one was deployed pretty quickly after that. We'll have one more CPR to deploy after we retrieve the current one being towed behind the vessel.

Planning meetings continue and with conditions having eased off, which means all passengers are up and about, the compulsory briefing program will start to commence over the next day or so.

Cheers,

Andrew and Mark
