Comments

Blue whale sightings continue to come in thick and fast as we collect data for comparing sighting and acoustic detection rates (acoustics is currently winning, but we have some seriously good observers onboard to give them a run for their money; not that we're encouraging competition, of course). Interestingly, we've been hearing and seeing blue whales in deep water (i.e., in waters of 2000 m depth or more), which we were not expecting. If the weather forecasts are correct, we hope to retrieve the acoustic mooring tomorrow morning. And the last thing we'll mention was a sighting of a Buller's Albatross this afternoon, which caused excitement amongst the birdy types onboard.
